Alexander D. Swann (b. 1819) of Wilmington, NC, entered the University in 1833 and joined the Dialectic Society. According to Battle, in 1837 Swann was displeased with the report of his ranking in the senior class and "refused to stand the examinations" (1:433), thus failing to graduate. His career after college is unknown, though he seems to have "died early" (Catalogue of the Members of the Dialectic Society 75).
